KIEV, October 15. /TASS/. The law on lustration will enter into force in Ukraine on Thursday, October 16.
The Verkhovna Rada (parliament) newspaper, “Golos Ukrainy” (“The Voice of Ukraine”), published the lustration law on Wednesday.
Under the document, all government officials, as well as local self-government bodies officials, who held positions from February 25, 2010 to February 22, 2014, during Viktor Yanukovich’s presidency, come under the purview of the lustration law.
Officials, law enforcers and state officials, who “did harm to life, health and property” of the Euromaidan participants, cannot hold their positions. The law will also affect persons, who held key positions in the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, and former officers of security services.
Incumbent President Petro Poroshenko does not come under the purview of the law despite the fact that he worked in the government of Mykola Azarov.
Commenting on this fact, the Verkhovna Rada speaker, Oleksandr Turchynov, said the law was related to officials of all levels.
At the same time, he said the law did not affect citizens on elected positions.
