DONETSK, October 6. /TASS/. The self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) authorities may postpone the elections to November 9, DPR First Vice-Premier Andrey Purgin told TASS on Monday.

“We’re discussing such possibility because we have a tight schedule. We can have no time to prepare if the voting is held on November 2,” he said.

The republic’s Supreme Council will take a final decision on the date of the elections, Purgin added.

In mid-September, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko submitted to the Verkhovna Rada a draft law granting a special self-rule status for certain districts in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. The status is designed for three years. Among other issues, the draft law envisions elections in the region.

The special status law was stipulated by the Minsk agreements reached in early September in the Belarusian capital on the basis of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s seven-point plan proposed two days before.
