US assistant secretary is due to pay a visit to Kiev to discuss the Ukrainian conflict
She also will discuss the “US support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity with senior Ukrainian government leaders”
WASHINGTON, October 6. /TASS/. US Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland is due to pay a visit to Kiev on Monday to discuss the Ukrainian conflict and further US support to the country, the US Department of State has said.
Nuland will travel to Kiev where she will discuss the “US commitment to assist ongoing reform efforts in Ukraine, the status of the conflict in eastern Ukraine, and US support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity with senior Ukrainian government leaders,” the statement says.
The US diplomat “will also meet with a broad spectrum of political leaders, civil society groups, regional government officials, and student groups,” the US Department of State said.
The visit comes amid a tense situation in Ukraine’s eastern city of Donetsk, where two persons were killed and eight others wounded as the shelling continued all through Sunday.
Violence continued despite a ceasefire announced on September 5 following the OSCE-mediated talks in the Belarusian capital Minsk.
Nuland is also scheduled to travel to Berlin on October 8 to discuss a “broad range of bilateral and global issues” with senior government officials and members of the Bundestag.
On October 9-10, Nuland will visit Helsinki, Finland, to meet with senior Finnish government leaders to discuss bilateral and regional issues. She is also due to participate in a round table with young entrepreneurs to focus on the innovation environment.
