OSCE names security as condition for investigation of suspicious burials near Donetsk
President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly said that an OSCE mission is working in Ukraine and the monitors are doing everything in their power to assist the investigation
MOSCOW, September 25. /ITAR-TASS/. Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe is conditioning its involvement in the investigation of suspicious burials near the much-troubled East-Ukrainian city of Donetsk, the President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Illka Kanerva, said on Thursday at a news conference organized by the Russian Council for International Affairs.
He said the OSCE would usually take on the responsibility for considering such issues but there are limitations in the Donbass area /Ukraine’s Donetsk and Luhansk regions - ITAR-TASS/ and it is not at all easy to conduct investigations in such places due to security considerations.
Kanerva recalled that an OSCE mission is working in Ukraine and the monitors are doing everything in their power to assist the investigation.
He said the monitors are unarmed because the OSCE is a civilian organization and it is ready to increase the number of observers to 500 if the ceasefire regime and other circumstances provide them with enough security.
