Croatia hosting EANA general assembly

SPLIT (Croatia), September 25. /ITAR-TASS/. The Croatian city of Split on Thursday is hosting a conference and annual general assembly of the European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA). Itar-Tass news agency represents Russia at the forum. The meeting is attended by representatives of more than 30 world’s leading news agencies. The forum is organized by Croatia’s national government-owned HINA news agency.

The forum will last for two days and discuss problems the news agencies are facing in the conditions of global digital technology development, as well as financing issues. The forum’s theme is “Funding for the Future: Public Money for Public Value, Acquisitions and Diversification.”

The conference agenda also includes the discussion of new trends, including combining journalists’ own materials with content from social media and other sources. The Alliance’s annual prize awarding will be held at the forum.

European Alliance of News Agencies was founded at a conference in Strasbourg on August 21, 1956. Its aim is the establishment of regular contacts between representatives of European news agencies and assistance to their co-operation that includes exchange of information, telecommunications, issues of tariffs and news data security.
