UNITED NATIONS, September 24. /ITAR-TASS/. Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades on Wednesday emphasised the need to implement the Minsk agreements on Ukraine.

Anastasiades met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on the sidelines of the 69th session of the U.N. General Assembly.

“We discussed the situation in Ukraine. We call for implementing the Minsk agreements as soon as possible in order to overcome the crisis,” he said.

Commenting on Cyprus’ position on the possibility of lifting the EU sanctions against Russia, Anastasiades said this would depend on the resolution of the Ukrainian crisis.

“This will depend on the EU common position and not on Cyprus,” he said.
