Elections in Donbass to be held November 2 — Luhansk Republic legislature’s speaker
The leaders of both Luhansk and Donetsk Republics have said more than once that they would not participate in the Ukrainian parliamentary election
LUHANSK, September 23. /ITAR-TASS/. The self-proclaimed Luhansk People’s Republic will be electing its head and parliament members on November 2, the speaker of the republic’s legislature, Alexei Karyakin has told ITAR-TASS.
“The elections will be synchronized with those in the Donetsk People’s Republic. November 2 has been set as a preliminary date,” he said.
The first deputy prime minister of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic, Andrey Purgin, has confirmed to ITAR-TASS that November 2 was set as a preliminary date of elections in his republic, too.
“We do not have an election legislation yet, but we do hope to draft and adopt it by that date,” he added.
The leaders of both Luhansk and Donetsk Republics have repeatedly said that they would not participate in the Ukrainian parliamentary election.
“We shall arrange for elections of our own,” the head of the Luhansk Republic, Igor Plotnitsky, said on Monday. “Our people will hold the elections. Ukraine will be hour neighbor.”
Earlier, the first deputy prime minister of the Donetsk Republic, Andrey Purgin, told ITAR-TASS the early elections to Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada would not be held in the self-proclaimed republic’s territory. In addition, he promised that the Donetsk Republic would conduct its own election by the end of the year.
