Beijing gives start to journalists’ race in China-Russia border regions

BEIJING, September 23. /ITAR-TASS/. Russian government-run news agency TASS and Chinese daily Renmin Ribao have completed preparation to a large-scale project - a race by journalists from Russia and China under the motto “Russian-Chinese border - border of peace and co-operation”.

The race will start from the Beijing House of People’s Assemblies in Tiananmen Square on Tuesday. This action aims at building up co-operation between mass media of the two countries, delivery of reports on economic priorities, cultural interests, traditions in border districts. Chinese journalists who will visit several regions in Russia’s Siberia and the Far East are also expected to come to Russia in 2015.

This journalist trip designed for ten days is held within the Year of Youth Exchanges between Russia and China. Russia’s Federation Council upper house of parliament and the All-China Assembly of People’s Representatives supported this initiative. Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko and Deputy Chairman of the All-China Assembly of People’s Representatives Permanent Commission Wang Chen will participate in the start ceremony of the media tour.

The name of motor race is conventional, as journalists will travel in China by aircrafts, trains and buses. Meanwhile, organisers would like to preserve a tradition of joint correspondent trips which were launched in 2006-2007 during national cross-years of Russia in China and China in Russia.

This time a group of 30 journalists representing along with news agency TASS and Renmin Ribao Russian governmental daily Rossiiskaya Gazeta, television broadcaster Ren-TV, Primorsky territory’s news agency APR Press, Chinese news agency Xinhua, China Radio International will travel in five cities in Chinese province Heilongjiang bordering Russia, including Heihe, Harbin, Suifenhe, Dongying and Mudanjiang. They will meet local state officials, business people, will visit enterprises, companies operating in border trade, areas of Russian-Chinese co-operation and will study operation of border crossings. Trans-border e-commerce is of major interest for them. Media people are also expected to visit institutes, schools and museums. Russian journalists will participate in round-table meetings, news briefings, will talk to young people and will discuss topical problems with fellow journalists.

Leading Chinese newspaper Renmin Ribao (People’s Daily) is a mouthpiece of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China reflecting diversified life of the country with a population of 1.3 billion.
