Ukraine tightens air and anti-tank defence at Europe's biggest nuclear plant
Physical protection measures have been enhanced at all of Ukraine’s operating nuclear plants
KIEV, September 19. /ITAR-TASS/. Air and anti-tank defence has been tightened at Ukraine’s Zaporizhye nuclear power plant located in the vicinity of the combat operations area in eastern Ukraine, Olga Makarovskaya, a deputy head of Ukraine’s state inspection of nuclear regulation, said on Friday.
“Taking into account the fact that the Zaporizhye nuclear plant is exposed to a bigger threat, security measures should be tighter there,” she told a briefing. “Key areas where security measures will be tightened are air defence and defence against tank attacks.”
She said that physical protection measures have been enhanced at all of Ukraine’s operating nuclear plants.
The Zaporozhye nuclear plant with an installed generating capacity of 6,000 megawatt is the biggest energy facility in Ukraine and Europe. It generates about 50% of electricity produced by Ukraine’s nuclear plants and accounts for more than 22% of the aggregate electricity generation in the country.
