Involved in such a national dialogue must be civic society organizations and citizens from all regions and minorities, the resolution runs
STRASBOURG, September 18. /ITAR-TASS/. The European Parliament has advised the Ukrainian authorities to take steps to promote trust among different social groups and their eventual reconciliation.
In a resolution on the situation in Ukraine and the EU’s relations with Russia, adopted at a full-scale session in Strasbourg, the European legislators noted the importance of establishing an inclusive national dialogue and of the avoidance of propaganda and hate statements and speeches, which may only aggravate the conflict.
Involved in such a national dialogue must be civic society organizations and citizens from all regions and minorities, the resolution runs.
The European Parliament said that the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada’s laws on the special rules of local self-government in some districts of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions and on the prevention of persecution and punishment of those involved in the latest events in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions would promote conflict settlement. The European Parliament members described both documents as an important contribution to the process of de-escalation.
