MEPs asking EU countries to strengthen OSCE observer mission in Ukraine
OSCE is playing a key role in settling the Ukrainian crisis owing to its experience of elimination of armed conflicts and thanks to the fact both Russia and Ukraine are its members
STRASBOURG, September 17. /ITAR-TASS/. European Parliament is pondering an appeal to member-states of the EU and its foreign policy service to do everything in their power for strengthening the specialized monitoring mission of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in Europe, both in terms of experienced personnel and in terms of logistics and equipment.
This is said in a resolution the parliament issued Wednesday on the situation in Ukraine and the EU’s relations with Russia.
The document was coordinated by all the political groups in parliament. On Thursday, September 18, it will be put up for voting.
OSCE is playing a key role in settling the Ukrainian crisis owing to its experience of elimination of armed conflicts and thanks to the fact both Russia and Ukraine are its members, the appeal says.
It stresses the importance of placing OSCE observers without delay at all the sections of the Russian-Ukrainian border that are currently controlled by separatists.
The EU also hailed the signing of a ceasefire agreement in Minsk September 5 and called on all the parties to the conflict to refrain from any actions or moves that could undermine it.
