Ukraine builds ‘border’ around territories under militia control
Ex-chief of Ukrainian Foreign Intelligence Service Nikolai Malomuzh calls construction of ‘a safety belt’ a forced measure
KIEV, September 17. /ITAR-TASS/. Ukrainian border guards started building ‘a safety belt’ around highly volatile Donbass districts under militia control, ex-chief of Ukrainian Foreign Intelligence Service Nikolai Malomuzh told Ukrainian media.
It invisages technical electronic control with mobile control stations along the whole perimeter of the divide line. "The second line is a permanent control line. The third one is reinforcements: trenches, support points and watch towers. This is already a technical component,” he noted.
Malomuzh has voiced his opinion about what would happen to the region when the effect of the law on Donbass special status would expire. “We are stabilising the situation, raising economy in regions and they are integrating in Ukrainian economy again and will return completely in Ukraine,” he said.
Malomuzh called construction of ‘a safety belt’ a forced measure. “This is not the border, but a divide line to prevent escalation on territories which will have special status,” he noted.
Ukraine’s parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, on September 16 endorsed a law on special system of local self-government in several districts in Donetsk and Luhansk Regions . The law grants special status to several districts for three years.
