KIEV, September 16. /ITAR-TASS/. Ukraine’s state-run weapons corporation Ukroboronprom said on Tuesday it planned to sell its obsolete arms to use the proceeds to buy foreign-made state-of-the-art weapons.

The press service of the corporation said it had pooled efforts with the Ukrainian defence ministry to fulfill President Petro Poroshenko’s three-year program of rearming the national army to adjust it to NATO standards.

“Addition funds have been allocated from the state budget for these purposes. Ukroboronprom is actively working on its own development,” the press service said, adding that ir was planned to sell obsolete armaments “to foreign countries” to use the money to buy new foreign-made weapons.

The Ukrainian army, according to the press service, can receive modern weaponry under a simplified procedure now that at the president’s initiative “the term of receiving new weapons has been reduced to several weeks.” “Previously, this process might take several years,” it noted.
