Ukrainian MPs propose forming EU-Ukraine-Russia group on peace plan
The first meetings of the contact inter-parliamentary group will take place in Moscow and Brussels this month
KIEV, September 15. /ITAR-TASS/. The Ukrainian parliament’s group For Peace and Stability calls for forming an EU-Ukraine-Russia contact inter-parliamentary group to work out a plan of action to restore peace in the country.
“The parliament of Ukraine must not keep aside from the processes of peaceful settlement of the situation in the country. All authorities without exception must assume responsibility for the future. It is clear to everybody already that only talks can end bloodshed and destruction. President Poroshenko’s peace plan must be filled with real content,” a member of the group, Vladimir Oleinik, told reporters on Monday.
Members of the group For Peace and Stability have already had talks with members of the European parliament and Russia’s State Duma. “We have proposed our colleagues from Russia and the EU to form an inter-parliamentary group to work out a common plan of action on the legislative level to settle the conflict in our country. We already have confirmation of the deputies’ readiness to actively participate in the work of the group to restore peace in Ukraine,” the legislator said.
The first meetings of the contact inter-parliamentary group will take place in Moscow and Brussels this month.
Deputies this week will work on the implementation of the Minsk agreements and the peace plan of the Ukrainian and Russian presidents. "In particular, a special status for the eastern regions must be discussed and approved," Oleinik said.
The Minsk meeting on August 26, with the participation of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, Russian President Vladimir Putin and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Catherine Ashton, decided to form Russia-Ukraine-OSCE and Russia-Ukraine-EU contact groups.
