NATO starts handing over weapons to Ukraine, defense minister says

Earlier Petro Poroshenko said that Ukraine had agreed on direct deliveries of modern weapons with some NATO countries

KIEV, September 14 /ITA-TASS/. NATO countries have started handing over weapons to Ukraine, Ukrainian Defense Minister Valery Galetei, who had attended the NATO summit in Wales together with President Poroshenko, said in an interview with Ukraine’s Channel 5. 

“I met the defense ministers of the world’s leading countries, who could help us, behind the closed doors. They heard us. They have started handing over weapons,” Galetei said.

Ukrainian president’s adviser Yuri Lutsenko wrote in Facebook on September 7 that several Western countries, such as the United States, France, Italy, Poland and Norway, had agreed to send military advisers and supply modern weapons to Ukraine.

The United States, Poland and Norway have denied that information. Source in Rome said that Italy was considering sending non-lethal military equipment to Ukraine in close coordination with is NATO partners. France refused to give any comments, saying that the soured was informal.

However, later President Petro Poroshenko said that Ukraine had agreed on direct deliveries of modern weapons with some NATO countries.
