Ukraine-EU association agreement to be ratified Tuesday — Ukrainian foreign minister
Russian Minister of Economic Development Alexei Ulyukayev told journalists the association agreement would come into force from 2016
BRUSSELS, September 12. /ITAR-TASS/. The association agreement between Ukraine and the European Union will be ratified on Tuesday without any amendments to the text, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavel Klimkin said on Tuesday after trilateral talks with Russian Minister of Economic Development Alexei Ulyukayev and European Commissioner for Trade Karel De Gucht.
“The agreement will be ratified on Tuesday,” Klimkin said, adding that its text would be unchanged.
He said that thanks to today’s agreements, “the Russian side will have no grounds to impose trade restrictions” against Ukrainian goods.
Russian Minister of Economic Development Alexei Ulyukayev told journalists the association agreement would come into force from 2016.
He said that the parties to today’s ministerial consultations had admitted that the problems over the implementation of Ukraine’s association agreement with the European Union Russia had spoken about were real ones.
“The sides agreed that it would take time to clarify these issues, that is why the implementation of the association agreement between Ukraine and the European Union after its ratification would be postponed till the end of 2015, till December 31, 2015,” Ulyukayev said, adding that the sides would have 15 months to reach a compromise on that issue.
