VIENNA, September 10 /Itar-Tass/. Austria is opposed to EU’s military support for the Kiev government but is ready to face the consequences of all political decisions, Austria’s Federal Chancellor Werner Faymann said at a meeting of Austrian government members with representatives of trade unions and other ‘social partners’ of the Austrian state on Wednesday.

"As far as political leverage is concerned, we are going to support all measures. But we are categorically against any kind of military support such as weapons supplies or participation in military operations,” Chancellor Faymann told the meeting devoted to the impact of the Ukraine crisis on Austria’s economy.

The head of the Austrian government has toughened Austria’s relatively neutral position on the Ukraine crisis in recent days. After the EU summit in Brussels, Faymann blamed Russia for the conflict in Ukraine in his public remarks for the first time.

Last Tuesday, however, Faymann promised to “increase political pressure until the parties (in conflict) did not sit down at the negotiating table to work out a serious peace plan.
