NEWPORT, September 05. /ITAR-TASS/. France will take a decision on whether or not to deliver the Mistral helicopter carriers to Russia at the end of October, President Francois Hollande said Friday upon the end of NATO’s summit conference here.

He also said that the contract on the Mistrals was not annulled, since the EU sanctions never required this annulment and did not have an impact on the effective defense contracts.

Hollande said the first Mistral ship had already been built and its transfer to the Russian Navy had initially been planned for the end of October.

Earlier this week, Elysees Palace said for the first time ever after the start of the anti-Russian sanctions saga that the delivery of the ship to the customer was not possible in the currently conditions given the events unfolding in Ukraine.

Hollande said in Newport Friday the French government’s compliance with the terms of the agreement on Mistrals would depend on the effectuation of the ceasefire agreement, which the representatives of the Kiev government and leaders of the East-Ukrainian self-defense forces signed in the Belarusian capital earlier in the day.

Another condition for the supplies of the Mistrals specified by Hollande is a political agreement among the parties involved in the Ukrainian conflict.
