The commission will just submit its suggestions on the sanctions to the European Council

BRUSSELS/LONDON, September 03. /ITAR-TASS/. The European Commission will not announce its proposals on new sanctions against Russia on Wednesday, the commission’s spokeswoman Pia Ahrenkilde Hansen said.

The commission will just submit its suggestions on the sanctions to the European Council, while their substance will be voiced only after the council approves them and they come in force, she said.

The EU countries have also agreed to adopt a possible new set of sanctions via a written procedure among representatives of the countries and a ministerial meeting won’t be required for this purpose, she said.

The European Commission is considering prohibiting local oilfield service companies from working in Russia’s oil sector among possible new sanctions, Financial Times reported. Russia might be dismissed from services of European companies, in particular, France’s Technip, Italy’s Saipem and the UK’ Petrofac, in deep water drilling, exploration at Arctic fields and shale gas development. However, the measure will not be applied to the gas sector.
