WASHINGTON, September 03. /ITAR-TASS/. The White House confirmed on Wednesday that a video showing the beheading of US journalist Steven Sotloff by Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) militants was authentic.

"The US Intelligence Community has analyzed the recently released video showing US citizen Steven Sotloff and has reached the judgment that it is authentic," National Security Council spokeswoman Caitlin Hayden said.

The video showing Sotloff's beheading was released on Tuesday, just two weeks after the ISIS militants released a video showing the murder of another American journalist, James Foley.

Sotloff, 31, went missing in Syria a year ago.
