PARIS, September 01. /ITAR-TASS/. Russian State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin said on Monday personal sanctions were absurd and anti-democratic.

As part of the two-day visit to Paris, Naryshkin will take part in a session of the PACE Presidential Committee and meet with its Chairperson Anne Brasseur.

“I believe that corporative, personal and sectoral sanctions are a deadlock,” Naryshkin said. Commenting on personal sanctions, he said, “Of course, this is an absurd and anti-democratic measure that runs counter to the European democratic tradition.”

The measure is absurd because on the one hand, “many Western politicians say it is impossible to find a solution to the Ukrainian crisis without Russia". "On the other hand, they impose restrictions on contacts with Russian politicians and Russian parliamentarians," Naryshkin said.

“I’m also on the sanction list, but I’m invited by the international organization - the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe to hold an open dialogue hoping for bigger mutual understanding,” he said.
