European Parliament to send observers to elections in Ukraine
Herman Van Rompuy, President of the Council of Europe, and Jose Manuel Barroso, European Commission President, will visit Kiev in September
BRUSSELS, August 30 /ITAR-TASS/. The European Parliament will send an observer mission to the parliamentary elections in Ukraine, its President Pyotr Poroshenko said on Saturday.
Ukraine will hold early parliamentary elections on October 26.
“We talked about sending observers from the European Parliament. We are convinced that this is a very important part of the political process the European Union supports,” Poroshenko said.
Also Poroshenko said that Herman Van Rompuy, President of the Council of Europe, and Jose Manuel Barroso, European Commission President, will visit Kiev in September.
“At my invitation, many European leaders will come to Ukraine in September,” he said.
In addition to Van Rompuy and Barroso, Poroshenko also invited Italian Prime Minister Mattei Renzi, European Parliament President Martin Schulz, and several other European leaders.
