EU leaders to meet with Ukrainian president August 30
BRUSSELS, August 28. /ITAR-TASS/. European Council President Herman van Rompuy will meet with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko in Brussels on August 30, the EU Council President’s press service said on Thursday.
Poroshenko is planning to chold talks with European Commission (EC) Chairman Jose Manuel Barroso on the same day.
The meetings will be held ahead of the EU extraordinary summit scheduled for Saturday, August 30, and focus on the political resolution of the Ukraine conflict and the ratification of the Association Agreement.
Earlier in the day, European Commission spokesman Peter Stano told ITAR-TASS that the EC had not ruled out a possibility of making changes to the Association Agreement.
Brussels hopes that Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada will ratify the association deal soon.
The multilateral meeting within the Ukraine-EU-Customs Union format was held in Minsk on August 26. Its participants agreed to hold a Russia-Ukraine-EU tripartite meeting in Brussels on September 12 over the implementation of the association and free trade zone agreement.
