KIEV, August 27. /ITAR-TASS/. Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has described the talks within the Ukraine-EU-Eurasian troika format in Minsk as “positive signals”, the presidential press service said.

In a telephone talk with German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Wednesday, Poroshenko said the results of the multilateral meeting in Minsk “can lay the foundation for peaceful settlement in Donbass”.

“Among the positive signals Poroshenko named the search for common approaches towards controlling the border, concrete steps towards releasing detainees and contribution to the dialogue on trade issues,” the press service said.

“They agreed that the logic of Poroshenko’s peace plan found support among the participants in the meeting in Minsk. The position exposed in the plan can be the base for practical measures over de-escalation. The measures will be put forth in the short run, particularly for the work of the tripartite working group with Donbass representatives,” the press service said.

Poroshenko and Merkel discussed a possibility of continuing the talks on the peaceful settlement in Ukraine, particularly within the Normandy (Russia, Ukraine, Germany and France) or Geneva formats.
