Ukraine contact group to resume work soon — Kremlin spokesman

MOSCOW, August 27. /ITAR-TASS/. The Contact Group for Ukraine is to resume its work in the coming days, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Wednesday

Commenting on an agreement between the Russian and Ukrainian Presidents, Vladimir Putin and Petro Poroshenko, who held talks in Minsk on Tuesday, Peskov said the group’s membership was not separately discussed and would apparently remain the same. The timeframe of its work was not specified as well.

The initiative on the Ukrainian crisis settlement within the Contact Group framework was put forward in February 2014, and its first meeting was held in Kiev in early June. The group’s latest meeting was held in the Ukrainian capital on August 14 to discuss logistical aspects of the humanitarian aid delivery to the southeast of Ukraine. Earlier, the Contact Group held a meeting in Minsk on July 31 jointly with representatives of the leadership of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic.

Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said on Tuesday that the participants in the summit of the Customs Union (of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan) and Ukraine agreed that the Belarusian capital would be the venue for negotiations within the Contact Group for Ukraine.
