MOSCOW, August 27./ITAR-TASS/. Russian will continue the provision of humanitarian aid to Ukraine’s embattled east regions under the aegis of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Wednesday.

Commenting on Russian President Vladimir Putin’s Tuesday statement that he reached a certain agreement with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko on his issue, the official told ITAR-TASS that the sides “emphasised that it was necessary to continue the aid provision due to the humanitarian disaster in Ukraine’s eastern regions.” “The humanitarian supplies will be delivered under the ICRC aegis and in full co-ordination with Ukrainian authorities,” Peskov said.

After talks between Putin and Poroshenko in Minsk overnight to Wednesday, the Russian head of state said the leaders discussed, among other things, the issues of humanitarian aid provision to Ukraine’s eastern regions. “We [the Russian side] have expressed concern over the humanitarian component,” Putin said. “But President Poroshenko also does not deny that the humanitarian situation is grave; it cannot be described other than catastrophic,” he added.

According to the Russian president, the sides agreed on the possible provision of the vitally needed humanitarian aid to Donetsk and Luhansk. “We agreed on the interaction ways on this track; let’s not run ahead, but we have reached certain agreements on this,” Putin said.
