MINSK, August 26. /ITAR-TASS/. Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said at a meeting with the leaders of the Customs Union of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan with the participation of EU representatives that his visit’s goal is to stop bloodshed in eastern Ukraine.

“The future of the world and Europe is being decided here. The goal of my visit to Minsk is to stop bloodshed and launch the process of seeking a political compromise,” Poroshenko said. “The interests of Donbass (the Donetsk and Luhansk regions) should and will be taken into account,” he said.

Poroshenko said his peace plan to settle the situation in Ukraine is still relevant. He urged the leaders to “look at the plan once again and accept it".

Special group on Ukraine's association with EU

Poroshenko also proposed setting up a special group to monitor the losses sustained by the Customs Union from Ukraine’s association with the EU.

“Today we can agree to set up a special group, which will monitor real losses. After the losses are revealed, we can talk about compensation or protection mechanisms,” he said.

Poroshenko also noted a possibility of launching a dialogue on mutual recognition of certificates and mutual recognition of laboratories’ conclusions to resolve phytosanitary problems.

Ukraine's trade turnover with the Customs Union dropped 30%. “This is disadvantageous for Ukraine and for the Customs Union partners,” he said. “Further deterioration of trade conditions should be prevented,” Poroshenko said.

“Now the priority is to adopt the CIS legal base to new conditions, including through signing new sectoral agreements in order to prevent non-tariff barriers,” he said.

Donor conference in Ukraine

The Ukrainian president has also invited the EU and Customs Union to take part in a donor conference due to be held in Ukraine this autumn.

“We’re discussing variants of the region’s (Donbass) post-conflict development. The international community says it is ready to help Ukraine,” he said.

“Our foreign partners are ready to put forth concrete proposals during the international donor conference scheduled for this autumn,” Poroshenko said.
