Russia's Foreign Ministry: Creation of democratic state in Libya is in dead end
The chaos in Libya is a direct result of irresponsible interference by the U.S. and its NATO allies, the Russian diplomatic service added
MOSCOW, August 25. /ITAR-TASS/. The political process of building a modern democratic state in Libya on the ruins of the Gaddafi regime overthrown in 2011 has come to a dead end, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
“We can state that the political process of building a modern democratic state in Libya on the ruins of the Gaddafi regime dismantled in 2011 has definitively come to a dead end,” it said.
“The situation in Libya is developing from bad to worse. As large-scale fighting is escalating in the east and west of the country, primarily in Benghazi and Tripoli, the whole system of power created in the ‘post-revolutionary’ period is falling apart,” the ministry said.
“We are convinced that the present chaos in Libya is a direct result of the irresponsible interference by the United States and its NATO allies in the internal Libyan conflict in order to remove the Gaddafi regime and forcibly ‘democratise’ the country,” the ministry said. “The people of Libya now have to pay for that with thousands of civilian lives lost in the bloody strife and the ruined socioeconomic infrastructure.”
The ministry said “the future of the country will depend on the outcome of the armed confrontation between different territorial and tribal groups which are fighting for political power, and natural and financial resources and some of which publicly support extremist Islamist ideas”.
