MOSCOW, August 22. /ITAR-TASS/. The Russian Red Cross is in talks with international organizations about a possible dispatch of teams of volunteers to participate in the humanitarian operation in eastern Ukraine, its press service said on Friday.

The decision may come later on Friday, it said. At the moment, Russia’s Red Cross has teams of about 20 volunteers in the southern Krasnodar, Stavropol and Volgograd regions.

It is now holding emergency consultations with the Ukrainian Red Cross and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the press service reported, saying food and safety issues should be settled.

The spokesperson for the ICRC regional delegation for Russia, Belarus and Moldova, Viktoria Zotikova, has told ITAR-TASS that the organization “is ready to cooperate with all parties in the operation”.

“We have officers in Luhansk. But the situation is changing for the worse. We were trying to get security guarantees, but failed to receive them,” she said.

The Russian aid convoy includes about 270 trucks delivering 2,000 tons of basic necessities for southeast Ukraine residents. The Russian authorities said the cargo included 400 tons of grains, 100 tons of sugar, 62 tons of baby food, 54 tons of medicines and medical items, 12,000 sleeping bags and 69 mobile power generators.
