Russian Foreign Ministry said earlier in the day that the decision to begin deliveries of humanitarian aid to the crisis-stricken areas of Eastern Ukraine could not be delayed any longer

KIEV, August 22. /ITAR-TASS/. Ukraine's Foreign Ministry has dismissed Russia's decision to give the green light to movement of the humanitarian aid convoy towards destinations on the Ukrainian territory as a "yet another glaring violation of key principles of international law".

Along with it, the ministry said all the necessary instructions had been issued to ensure safe passage of the convoy and to rule out provocations.

“In spite of all the attempts on the part of Ukraine, contacts with between the General Staffs of the Ukrainian and Russian Armed Forces haven’t been established to date and they are critical to the secure passage of the convoy,” the statement said. “We’re calling attention to the fact terrorists are conducting mortar shelling of the areas the convoy’s route may traverse.”

Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement earlier in the day that the decision to begin deliveries of humanitarian aid to the crisis-stricken areas of Eastern Ukraine could not be delayed any longer.

“We are stating one again that all the essential guarantees for a safe and secure passage of the convoy have been given,” the statement said. “The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) officially recognized the availability of these guarantees.”

“The routes of deliveries are well-known and have been verified by the ICRC mission,” the ministry said. “All the documents have been prepared and the cargoes have been prepared for inspections by the Ukrainian border guards and customs officials who have been staying for seven days at the Donetsk checkpoint in the Rostov region.”

“This is known in the world capitals that are incessantly demonstrating concern over the situation in the Southeast of Ukraine,” the statement said. “The issuance of ever more newly-contrived demands has turned into sheer mockery.”

“There is no tolerating this outrageous situation anymore and that is why Russia has taken a decision to act,” the ministry said. “Our aid convoy is getting on the move”.
