KIEV, August 21. /ITAR-TASS/. A humanitarian convoy from Russia, delivering relief supplies for residents of the war-torn areas in the south-east of Ukraine, remains on the Russian-Ukrainian border. The Ukrainian Customs and border control officers had not performed the necessary formalities by Wednesday night to officially let the humanitarian cargo cross the border.

"The Ukrainian side will immediately begin corresponding checks as soon as the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) finally confirms that it is ready to convoy the cargo to the destination,” the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said. It specified that ICRC that assumed responsibility for all the logistics aspects of the cargo transportation, including the transportation route, storage and distribution of the humanitarian supplies on the territory of Ukraine, needs guarantees of security for the ICRC personnel and the cargo, the ministry said on its website.

A first group numbering 16 white Kamaz trucks with relief supplies onboard arrived at the Donetsk-Izvarino check point on the border with Ukraine on Wednesday evening.

Later, press service head of Russia's Southern Customs department Rayan Farukshin confirmed that "all 16 trucks had been staying at the Donetsk checkpoint". "No control was exercised for reasons not depending on the Russian Customs,” he said.

The Russian humanitarian convoy numbering 270 trucks with almost 2,000 tons of relief supplies approached the Ukrainian border on August 14 and remains there since.
