RIGA, August 20./ITAR-TASS/. Latvian government will provide local milk producers and processors 13 million euros for compensation of losses from Russian embargo by the year-end, Minister of Agriculture Janis Duklavs said on Wednesday.

“These are 13 million euros from funds for unexpected expenses,” he said. “This decision will be coordinated with the European Commission but we plan that milk producers will received the aid in September or October.”

Latvia would also take other supportive measures. “We need to revise EU funds distribution and hold talks with banks. We’ll talk to each milk processing facility individually as there is no cure for all,” said Duklavs. “Some need repayment holidays, some need something else.”

On August 7, Russia announced total ban on meat, fish, poultry, fruit and vegetable and dairy products import from the EU, Australia, Canada, Norway and the US in response to sanctions the West imposed on Russia because of the events in Ukraine.
