DONETSK (Rostov region), August 20. /ITAR-TASS/. International officials of the Red Cross have agreed with Russian and Ukrainian authorities on border and customs control procedures for the Russian relief aid convoy bound for embattled east Ukraine, a source close to events told ITAR-TASS on Wednesday.

“The cargo will be inspected first by Russian and then by Ukrainian customs officers and border guards,” the source said, adding that supplies would be handed over to International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) officials who will seal the KAMAZ trucks with their loads inside.

The source said ICRC representative Andreas Schmidt had visited the site where the trucks were parked to discuss with the drivers safety of the convoy after it crossed into Ukraine.

Russia's Emergency Situations Ministry sent a convoy of some 270 trucks with relief supplies for residents of war-torn southeast Ukraine on August 12.

The cargo of some 2,000 tonnes of foodstuffs, water, baby food and medical supplies left Moscow region on August 12. It reached the Russian-Ukrainian border in the Rostov region on August 14 and has remained there since.
