Explosion staged near house of Abkhazia's central election commission chief
The explosion was staged four days before the presidential election in Abkhazia
SUKHUM, August 20./ITAR-TASS/. Representatives of the chairman of Abkhazia’s Central Election Commission have demanded a thorough investigation into an explosion staged near the official's house in Sukhum last night.
The grenade explosion went off in a yard of the house, owned by Head of Abkhazia's Central Election Commission Batal Tabagua, at approximately 4.00 am Wednesday. No one was hurt in the blast, but Tabagua's house and a few nearby constructions were damaged.
The explosion was staged four days before the presidential election in Abkhazia.
Following the incident the Interior Ministry of Abkhazia has been discussing appointment of personal guards to ensure safety of the head of the central election commission.
Four candidates are running for presidency in Abkhazia. The election headquarters of one of the presidential candidates, Raul Khadzhimba, has condemned the explosion as "using unacceptable methods which might lead to destabilization of the situation in Abkhazia.
