Foreign Ministry spokesman reiterated Kiev’s position that humanitarian aid should be delivered to Ukraine only under the supervision of the International Committee of the Red Cross

KIEV, August 19, /ITAR-TASS/. Ukraine has provided guarantees of the safe passage of the Russian humanitarian convoy in areas controlled by the Ukrainian army, Foreign Ministry spokesman Yevgeny Perebeinos said on Tuesday.

At the same time, he said that “the route chosen for the humanitarian convoy lies outside the area controlled by our Armed Forces” and full responsibility for the safety of the convoy in these places would “rest with the militiamen themselves and Russia”.

He reiterated Kiev’s position that humanitarian aid should be delivered to Ukraine only under the supervision of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and under its full responsibility.

According to a preliminary plan, each group of up to30 trucks carrying relief supplies will be accompanied by five ICRC officials.

Earlier in the day, the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic leaders said they would guarantee the security of the Russian humanitarian convoy in the territory controlled by militias.
