GENEVA, August 19. /ITAR-TASS/. Ukraine asked Switzerland’s authorities to hand over frozen assets of former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych’s associates to the country.

Spokesman for the Swiss Federal Office of Justice which makes part of the Swiss Federal Department for Justice and Police Folco Galli confirmed to ITAR-TASS this information made public earlier by local media.

“I can confirm that the Federal Office of Justice has received three Ukrainian requests for mutual aid this summer regarding Viktor Yanukovych’s associates, but not the very former president,” Galli told ITAR-TASS.

“The Federal Office of Justice is studying these requests for compliance with formal requirements,” Galli added, refraining from giving any details of this affair.

In February Switzerland’s government, the Federal Council, ruled to freeze accounts of 20 Ukrainian citizens at banks of the Swiss Confederation, including those of Viktor Yanukovych, who was ousted from power in a state coup staged in Ukraine in late February, 2014, and his son Alexander, Sergei Arbuzov, Nikolai Azarov and several other members of the former government.

The Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland said that frozen assets had made around 170 million Swiss francs ($187.9 million).
