VILNIUS, August 19. /ITAR-TASS/. Ukrainian parliament speaker Olexandr Turchynov urged the West on Tuesday to supply military equipment to back Kiev in what he described as "a large scale war in which terrorists, saboteurs and armaments are used."

"It is a challenge not only to Ukraine: it is also a war imposed upon Europe, a war against NATO," said Turchynov at a meeting with Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite.

He reiterated Kiev's request for supplies of military equipment. "We need modern armaments, aircraft and air defense equipment," he said.

The Ukrainian speaker was a guest at a meeting between parliament speakers from Baltic and northern countries in Lithuania's Palanga resort on Monday.
