Some unscrupulous importers may make attempts at fish re-exporting to profit from the situation, however, Russian competent authorities will monitor such cases

MOSCOW, August 19. /ITAR-TASS/. Norwegian salmon’s delivery to Russia by re-export though Switzerland or Tunisia is impossible, the Russian Federal Fisheries Agency head said on Tuesday.

“For example, salmon from Norway will never be supplied through Switzerland or Tunisia because it does not physically exist there. The risk of serious inspections is very high there,” Ilya Shestakov, the head of the fisheries agency Rosrybolovstvo said on Rossiya 24 TV channel. “I think such cases (of re-export) of most fish species will be excluded,” he added.

According to the Rosrybolovstvo head, some unscrupulous importers may make attempts at fish re-exporting to profit from the situation, however, Russian competent authorities such as the veterinary watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor and the Federal Customs Service (FCS) will monitor such cases and check the products’ certificates of origin.

The Russian government earlier this month banned the imports of fish, beef, pork, poultry meat, cheeses, milk and fruit and vegetables from Australia, Canada, the European Union, United States and Norway for one year.

Rosselkhoznadzor head Sergei Dankvert told ITAR-TASS on August 18 that the agency recorded attempts of re-exporting through Belarus of European fruit and vegetables, banned for import into Russia.
