MOSCOW, August 15. /ITAR-TASS/. The Russian Federal Fisheries Agency has suggested banning canned and processed fish imports from the EU, the US, Norway and Canada, Deputy Agriculture Minister Ilya Shestakov told daily Izvestia on Friday.

“We think there is such a possibility. Moreover, we produce plenty of deep processed products, excluding only a small range of it. Russia can fully replace the imported canned fish with its own,” Izvestia quoted Shestakov as saying.

The agency also suggested lifting the ban on hatchling imports, as it is not food, while Russian salmon farms depend on Norwegian hatchling and feed-stuff supplies. According to Shestakov, the agency also wants to prevent Russian fish prices from growing by supporting transportation of fish from the country’s Far East to its central part.
