Ukraine needs millions of dollars to restore ruined railway infrastructure

The infrastructure of the Donetsk, Southern and Dnieper Railways has been seriously damaged while 49 facilities have been ruined

KIEV, August 13. /ITAR-TASS/. Ukraine will need millions of dollars to restore its ruined railway infrastructure.

According to Ukrainian Railways Company (Ukrzheldoroga), 187 railway facilities had been either damaged or destroyed.

The infrastructure of the Donetsk, Southern and Dnieper Railways has been seriously damaged while 49 facilities have been ruined, the enterprise’s press service reported.

According to minimal estimates, Ukrainian Railways will need at least 400 million hryvnias ($30 million) to restore the damaged railways; the repairs of contact systems and power installations are valued at 200 million hryvnias ($15 million) while the restoration of railway bridges and other engineering facilities will cost another 90 million hryvnias ($6.5 million). Ukrzheldoroga’s executives have already found a source to finance the restoration works and have set the deadline for the restoration.

Many experts, however, believe that capital repairs will require budget funds.
