Brussels reacted with concern to the enthusiasm some manufacturers in Latin America reacted to Russia’s ban on the import of foods from the European Union

BOGOTA, August 13. /ITAR-TASS/. Ecuador will not be asking permission from any third party whether it can export foods to other countries, including Russia, President Rafael Correa said on Tuesday.

“We have no intention of seeking permission from no one to sell foods to friendly countries. After all, Latin America is not a member of the European Union yet,” local media quote Correa as saying.

Britain’s Financial Times said on August 11 Brussels reacted with concern to the enthusiasm some manufacturers in Latin America reacted to Russia’s ban on the import of foods from the European Union, imposed in retaliation for anti-Russian sanctions.

An EU official said the union would be conducting talks with the countries that may potentially substitute for European export to Russia to express the expectation they will not derive benefits from the current situation.
