Ukraine police wounded, as nationalists storm security office

Four attackers were detained, including a ringleader of a Right Sector regional branch

KIEV, August 08./ITAR-TASS/. Ukraine’s Right Sector far-right activists tried to break in a regional security service department in Ukraine’s western city of Uzhgorod, wounding a patrol policeman in the clash, the press service of the country’s Interior Ministry said on Friday.

A duty security officer called up the police at 6.40pm GMT on August 7, informing that unidentified offenders had parked a car near the central entrance to the security service’s regional office and sought to break inside.

Coming at the incident site police have spotted 4-5 men in camouflage at the entrance to the security service office. To an oral warning assailants gave “an indignant response and started moving to law enforcers.”

“A man has made a shot at policemen. A policeman has got left hip wound,” the press service reported.

The wounded policeman was taken to hospital, where he was operated on and now his life is out of danger.

After suspects were brought to the Uzhgorod city police station, around 80 men came to the police station, seeking to “free” the detainees.

Criminal proceedings were opened over the attack on a law enforcer and the regional security service office, the ministry’s press service said.
