Ukraine bans fifth Russian TV channel
The council, which banned Russia's RTR-Planeta, NTV Mir, Russia 24 and TV Center-International channels in mid-July, explained the move with information security reasons
KIEV, August 07. /ITAR-TASS/. RBC TV, Russia's only 24-hour business news television channel, has been banned in Ukraine, the council's national TV and radio broadcasting council said on Thursday.
The council, which banned Russia's RTR-Planeta, NTV Mir, Russia 24 and TV Center-International channels in mid-July, explained the move with information security reasons.
RBC-TV programs "do not meet the demands of the European Convention on Transfrontier Television and current Ukrainian legislation," the council said.
RBC-TV editor-in-chief told ITAR-TASS that the channel continued broadcasting in Ukraine despite the council's ban.
He also said that the channel's ratings have grown in Ukraine recently. "We are trying to be unbiased and are not involved in the information war," he added.
Reut said the channel has no plans to appeal the council's ruling.
