KIEV, August 07. /ITAR-TASS/. Eighteen Ukrainian servicemen and 28 border guards from the country were detained and are being kept in custody in Russia, a spokesman of Ukrainian Security Council’s information analytical centre told a media briefing on Thursday.

“Eighteen Ukrainian servicemen and 28 border guards are being kept in custody in Russia. Our servicemen are charged with shelling on Russian border, five of them were arrested,” Andrei Lysenko said.

“Officers are among detainees, five of them are accused of precise border shelling. The Ukrainian general consul in Rostov-on-Don (southern Russia) was not permitted to visit our servicemen to find out details of their detention,” the Security Council spokesman added.

Meanwhile, ITAR-TASS earlier reported about the detention of four Ukrainian officers in Rostov region on suspicion of pounding Russian multi-way automotive border checkpoint Gukovo.

“A commander of a battalion, an assistant commander and two commanders of a company were detained. They were detained within the criminal case, because their formation was involved in the gunfire on this border-crossing point,” the spokesman said.
