KIEV, August 07. /ITAR-TASS/. Efforts to remove barricades and tent compounds from Independence square in Kiev have triggered another wave of violence.
Shots have been fired and explosions are rattling in Maidan again; Maidan supporters have been hurling stones at workers of the city communal services ordered by the city mayor to make a clean-up, ITAR-TASS reported from the scene.
Black fire fumes rose into the air after Maidan defenders had set several tires on fire.
Dozens of police officers, city cleaners and protesters dressed in balaclavas have crowded the city center.
The clean-up brigades shielded by police continue the work despite fierce protests from Maidan supporters.
Around a 20-strong squadron of national guards and traffic policemen are ensuring order and conditions for workers of the clean-up services, the press service of Kiev police said. Police have been confiscating weapons from the Maidan tenants, it said.
Meanwhile, the clean-up brigades have been dismantling tents in the ten compound. They have fully removed barricades from European square, clearing the way for traffic.
Maidan supporters had been staying in the city center since November 2013.
