OSCE observers return to Ukraine-Russia border
They will prepare a report on the latest developments in the area and submit it to the OSCE member states
VIENNA, August 04. /ITAR-TASS/. OSCE observers are on their way to Russia’s checkpoint of Gukovo in the southern Rostov region on the border with Ukraine, OSCE spokesman Shiv Sharma said on Monday.
They will prepare a report on the latest developments in the area and submit it to the OSCE member states, Sharma said.
Earlier, the observers left the checkpoint for security reasons as it came twice under fire on Sunday, he said, adding, however, that the incidents had not disrupted the OSCE observers’ work or made them change their schedule.
A spokesman for the Russian Federal Security Service’s (FSB) regional department, Vasily Malayev, told ITAR-TASS: “Due to the ongoing shooting and shall explosions …, several of the OSCE staffers working at the Gukovo border checkpoint have left their workplaces.”
Border guards and customs officers remain on duty, Malayev said.
