Ukraine cuts November election campaign from 60 to 45 days

KIEV, July 31. /ITAR-TASS/. Ukraine has cut the duration of the November campaign for snap parliamentary elections from 60 to 45 days due to underfunding, Ukrainian parliament reported on Thursday.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, Speaker Oleksandr Turchynov and Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk who met the leaders of deputy factions and parliamentary groups after a plenary meeting on Thursday agreed to cut the campaign’s duration from 60 to 45 days following parliament’s decision to cut the 2014 budget expenses.

The politicians agreed to prepare a draft of amendments to the country’s election law, the parliament’s press service reports. They also agreed to hold consultations to discuss the introduction of a proportionate election system with open electoral lists and the restoration of electoral blocs as the subjects of the election process.
