MINSK, July 30. /ITAR-TASS/. Belarus and Ukraine signed in Chernigov on Wednesday an intergovernmental agreement on the approval of the regulation on the demarcation of the state border between them, the Belarusian State Border Committee sources told ITAR-TASS.

“The regulation will determine the order of demarcation of the state border between the two countries and provide the legal foundation for the activity of the joint Belarusian-Ukrainian demarcation commission,” committee representative Yuri Demchenko said.

He added that the document provides for the order of marking of the state border on terrain. The agreement will come into force after the two sides conduct the required interstate procedures.

The total length of the state border between Belarus and Ukraine is about 1,048 kilometres. The countries signed the agreement on the state border in Kiev on May 12, 1997, and exchanged the ratification instruments on June 18, 2013. The first boundary sign on the Belarusian-Ukrainian section of the state border was opened on November 13, 2013 in the area of the junction point of the state borders of Belarus, Ukraine and the Russian Federation.

On June 24, 2014, the joint task groups started terrain marking of the Belarusian-Ukrainian state border in accordance with the map.
