The New York Daily News reported Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, that a pilot and his passenger flying 1972 Piper Cherokee light aircraft sent a distress call before trying to attempt an emergency landing at the Caspersen Beach.
Both the pilot and the passenger emerged unhurt after they crash landed the aircraft, however, a man walking his daughter along the beach was reported killed by the crashed aircraft and his nine-years-old girl was hospitalized suffering grave injuries.
ABC News quoted Venice Beach Mayor John Holic, a former air traffic controller, as saying that the aircraft could have lost power, but it would be up to investigators to establish what caused the plane to go down.
