MOSCOW, July 24. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia will complete supplies of Mi-17B-5 helicopters to Afghanistan in September, an official of the military-industrial complex told ITAR-TASS on Thursday.

“Rosoboronexpert has supplied three Mi-17B-5 helicopters to Afghanistan. Under the contract with the US Department of Defense, Russia had to supply nine helicopters,” the official said.

The helicopters have been assembled at the Kazan Helicopter Plant. They are equipped with engines and transported to Kabul by An-124 Ruslan planes, the official said.

Afghanistan has received 54 Mi-17B-5 helicopters. “The US laid no serious claims to Russian hardware,” he said.

Rosoboronexport and the US signed a contract on supplies of 21 helicopters in the spring 2011. In 2013 Russia supplied 12 helicopters under an additional contract. Later, an agreement was signed to supply another 30 helicopters in 2014. Totally, Afghanistan’s army is to receive 63 helicopters.

According to the US, the contract’s price reaches about $1.2 billion.
